Star Wars Legacy: Prisoner of the Floating World

So Legacy's back!! The era, set 100 years after the books continues with a new protagonist, Ania Solo, descendant of - well I don't need to tell you that! With Darth Krayt defeated the Sith have gone into hiding, but when Ania comes across a lightsaber hidden among a junkpile she uncovers a new plot to threaten the galaxy.

Ania has carved out a life for herself on the outer rim, far from the famous and central characters of her ancestry. While running her own business and not getting involved in larger galactic life she still has the same Solo spirit, loyasl to her friends with that same knack for winding up in trouble.

Sauk

Species: Mon Calamari
Sex: Male
Occupation: Ice Miner, engineer









A talented engineer, Sauk was made a refugee when Darth Krayt's Sith Empire targeted Mon Calamari and killed all life on the planet. With few options he became an ice miner on Carreras Minor, using his talents to value items from Ania's junkyard when she came to visit

SD
Species: Droid (unidentified type)
Sex: Neutral programming
Occupation: Enforcer








Part of Ania's crew SD was a towering security droid that took care of unruly dealers and protected the junkyard from threats. SD fell foul of the Sith who pursued Ania after she found a lightsaber.

AG-37

Species: Droid (IG-series descendant)
Sex: Male programming
Occupation: Freighter captain








An assassin droid with free will, AG acquired his own ship and, generally, makes his living as a law abiding citizen, transporting goods around the outer rim. He has a strongly developed sense of loyalty to Ania and his friends.


New Imperial Knights

Yalta Val

Species: Human
Sex: Male
Occupation: Imperial Knight








Yalta Val was a senior Imperial Knight sent to the Carreras system to oversee the installation of the new galactic communications network hub in the system, linking the outer rim to the core. Unfortunately he fell foul of a Sith trap and was captured.

Occupation: Imperial Knight








A junior Imperial Knight sent to oversee part of the new communications array. When Master Val did not check in he realised something was wrong and went in pursuit of him, battling Darth Wredd with the help of Ania Solo, who helped free Master Val and defeat the Sith, though Jao was seriously injured in the process

The orchestrator of the plot on Carreras, after defeating Master Val in combat he was betrayed and killed by his apprentice, who continued the plot for his own ends.

Darth Wredd

Species: Human
Sex: Male
Occupation: Sith Apprentice







After suffering under his master's apprenticeship, forced to wear a helmet at all times. Darth Wredd broke free of his master, assassinating him and taking over the plot to sabotage the plans of the Galactic Alliance. He impersonated master Val and overrode the communications array before revealing himself to the galaxy and revealing his plan, to be the only remaining Sith and rule all.

New Vehicles

Nune-class Shuttle variant

 








A smaller, more agile version of the standard Imperial shuttle. It could carry a standard crew and a small contingent of Stormtroopers to a location with speed.

Carreras System Starfighter

A standard snubfighter used by the local government to enforce the law and patrol the system.

Ania Solo's starship

A small, unarmed cargo craft used by Ania to transport herself and any valuable goods around the Outer Rim systems. Capable of flight on planet as well as in space, Ania could pilopt her nimble vessel to avoid the law, ultimately sacrificing her ship to escape Sith pursuit.

IG's freighter

A spacious cargo ship used by AG to transport goods around the system and could comfortable hols smaller ships such as Ania's in its hold. The ship was used extensively in the confilct on Carreras, demonstrating it's droid owner's loyalty to his friends.

Triumvirate starfighter

A new model of starfighter used by members of the Galactic Alliance/Empire/Jedi Triumvirate. One of these models was the personal craft of Imperial Knight Jao Assam.

Carreras Patrol Ship

A powerful mid-size capital ship used by the Shifala government on Carreras to run down and capture enemy ships. This ship tractored and brought aboard AG's freighter.

Darth Wredd's Ship

This sleek craft was used by Darth Wredd to escape the destruction he had caused in the Carreras system.

Communications Array

Part of an effort to provide better connection between the Outer Rim and the core and unite the galaxy under a new government

New Planets

Mala

A rogue planet, buried within the veil of the Surd Nebula and off any official charts. This planet was the base of operations for Darth Wredd and his master.

Carreras System

 

 






A small system, consisting of at least two planets, Carreras Major, a habitable planet- home to the Shifala species, and Carreras Minor a ringed giant with ice mining facilities stationed on it's rings. A remote system it was selected for the new communications array programme.

New Droids

Imperial Communications Droid

  










A mobile communications platform, these droids were able to broadcast across the vast reaches of space. These models were versatile and able to act independently. The droid assigned to Yalta Val retrieved his lightsaber when attacked and assisted Jao Assam and Ania Solo to rescue his master, even saving Jao's life.

Swarm Droid (?)

 

My name for a nifty piece of technology used by the Carrerras military, when boarding a captured vessel dozens of these small droids woulld converge on the entrance, overwhelming the crew and flushing them out to where they could be captured easily.

New Species

Shifala

 










The native species of the Carreras system, these simian humanoids dominated the government and military of the system, ruled by a Governor, Biala (pictured).

Story

No map, due to Carreras being a new system. In the wake of the destruction caused by Darth Krayt's Sith Empire the new government, the Triumvirate, seeks to re-establish order in the galaxy. One effort, led by Empress Marasiah Fel is a new communications array to improve communications between remote systems and the Core. En route to the Carreras relay Imperial Knight Yalta Val is captured by a Sith who impersonates him and assumes command of the relay. Master Val's communications droid is damaged and winds up in the possession of Ania Solo, who takes it to Sauk her friend. When repairing the droid they discover a lightsaber, which draws the attention of the Sith. Fleeing the military under his command they run into Jao Assam and run a rogue operation to stop the Sith plot. They hunt down and confront Darth Wredd in time to save Yalta Val and expose the plot, but not in time to save the array, which crashed into the planet Mala, hidden in the Surd Nebula. 

Wow that was a long post!! Always a lot of new stuff but I wanted to get ahead as I don't think I ever caught up on posting new content in the first volume of Legacy. We'll see what the future holds for the series with the announcement of Marvel re-aquiring the rights to Star Wars comics in 2015 - read more here

  

Blogga's Wall - February - April 2013

So a bit of a catchup post again - here's what went up on the wall over the past few months.

1) Star Wars: The Essential Reader's Companion

An avid collector of the Essential Guides this was high on my birthday list and it didn't dissapoint. A chronological summarisation of Star Wars literature with editor's notes and fantastic illustrations highlighting the key moments in the stories. For me it's great to show my wife where Star Wars stuff we're reading fits into the big picture, check out the timeline placement of certain stories and also read succinct summaries of all the prequel-era stuff I never bothered to read!!! If you want to quickly refresh your knowledge or introduce friends to the EU then this is the book for you!!

2) Star Wars Legacy: Prisoner of the Floating World #1

The return of Legacy is awesome!! The comic book series set 100 years after even the latest novels is what got me into Star Wars comics in the first place and a chance to continue that story is well worth jumping on board. I have to be honest in admitting I miss the old series and style but I'm certainly willing to give Ania Solo and her friends a chance and spent more time in this era. You'll have a review when the story arc finishes in a few month's time so I won't say more at this stage.

3) Chocky

One of a large pile of John Wyndham novels given to me by my pastor when he left for France, I enjoyed this novel about a boy with a not-so-imaginary friend. I didn't find it as enjoyable as 'Triffids' or some of the other books I've read and I don't know if the father's hapless attitude was symptomatic of the time (smoking in front of kids and ignoring serious psychological disorders - very pre-health and safety!!) or just annoying writing but it was fun to the end.

4) Assassin's Creed III

With the fourth installment due later in the year I thought I'd better lay my hands and this game as soon as the price came down a bit and thankfully it did. I'm still plodding my way through Halo's Spartan Ops but I've had a few forrays into this game and found it just as gripping as the rest of the series even in it's early chapters.

Star Wars Legacy returns!!!

Yes that's right!! Star Wars Legacy is due to return in the new year. With a new creative team (Corinna Bechko, Gabriel Hardman) replacing John Ostrander and Jan Duursema who were the original creators of the Legacy comics and who now write Dawn of the Jedi.

The new series follows on from the climactic events of the 'War' story arc with a new protagonist Ania Solo who is just trying to make her own way in the galaxy despite her famous lineage, but like Cade Skywalker she can't escape her destiny for long!!

The series starts with 'Prisoner of the Floating World' #1 due out in March 2013. So while I am slimming down my comic book orders there will still be plenty of Star Wars comic posting going on here still!!

Blogga's Wall Catchup

Well it's gonna be catch up central on this blog for a while I'm afraid!! Get ready for a few comic series reviews and old video game content while I'm at it.

I hope you'll let this blogger off as the delay in content is due to HIS WEDDING!!!! So obviously the preparation for said event and changes afterward have caused a bit of a delay but I hope to be posting more regularly soon. It was a lovely day by the way!!!

So here are a few things that went up on my wall during this busy time.

1) Halo: Ghosts of Onyx

 I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the sort-of sequel 'Glasslands' which is apparently going to tie in to the upcoming Halo 4 (release date in November has been announced by the way!!!). The story of the Spartan IIIs was very well done as well as their battle with Foreruner forces on Onyx. I did find the Covenant side of the story very confusing as it was hard to place within the context of the games, it seemed to be around the time of the Covenant civil war, yet the Elites are still warring against the humans - it does make sense but it was a bit hard to follow for my muddled brain - I might do a more in-depth review of this book at a later date so I'll stop here.

2) Star Wars: Agent of the Empire # 1

 A nice new series from Dark Horse and Legacy writer John Ostrander, sort-of James Bond meets Star Wars. This first run of the series 'Iron Eclipse' has come to and end so I'll be posting a full review up soon, so I won't say more on that either!

3) Assassin's Creed: Revelations

 The latest  game in the series lets you play as both Ezio and Altair as Desmond tries to puzzle his way out of a coma in the Animus. Fun additions are the opportunity to play some of Desmonds memories (in a weird 3D puzzle mode) and the Multiplayer which now has more of a story to it, you're still a Templay fighting other Termplars in the Animus but you can now unlock Abstergo files and there are even cutscenes as you progress - a good game so far!

4) Star Wars: Episode 1 3D

I enjoyed this loads more than I actually expected - even as a die-hard Star Wars fan. I love watching the movie in the big screen and the added scenes were fun, especially the extended Podrace sequence and extra details on Coruscant were a delight - worth another trip to the cinema for me!!

5) Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi #0

This is a very exciting new series by the Legacy team chronicling the origins of the Jedi Order. This was a very handy guidebook to the series, which I am reading with my wife as it is perfect for new Star Wars readers as almost all the story content is new and the guidebook helpfully explains the stuff that isnn't such as the Sith species and the Rakata, which might otherwise confuse a new reader - this is a great new era to explore.

And that's it - movies next I think!!

Star Wars Legacy: War (1-6)

This is it! The end of Legacy with the entire Galaxy plunged into War as Darth Krayt returns from the dead and tumbles the galaxy in Chaos to ahieve his vision for it. Meanwhile Cade has his own vision - him and Krayt one on one in a final confrontation.

New Ships

I know I've focused mostly on characters in my posts, hopeing that the series would stretch on long enough for me to do retrospectives on everything that turns up, sadly this isn't the case so I'll cover some of the ships that show up in this final series as well as the usual run of updates.

Dragon Ship










These massive warships were secretly constructed on Korriban to serve for the pure Sith forces, rather than the Empire. These massive ships outclassed the Star Destroyers that came their way and were used to devastating effect in the war.

Annihilator Starfighter









These massive starfighter were also constructed by Krayt who designed them for exclusive use by his Sith Troopers who were cybernetically connected to them. They had enough firepower to take on a cruiser single-handed and still could outmaneuver the latest fighter designs of the day.

Sith Gunship










These powerful gunships accompanied the Annihilators in the attack on Taivas, I don't know much more - I had to scan this image myself!!

Sith Updates

Sith Troopers










This army was secretly raised by Krayt, taking the most potent Sith from childhood and cybernetically augmenting them to serve his purposes they were both powerful and blindly loyal to Darth Krayt, fighting anyone their master ordered them to.

Darth Wyyrlok II
Species: Chagrian
Sex: Female
Position: Wyyrlok









In a brief flashback we got a glimpse of the current Wyyrlok's mother who had served Darth Krayt in the same way her son did until his betrayal.











The first casualty of the war was Darth Wyyrlok, who dueled Krayt on his return to Coruscant and was killed by his former master, losing control of the Sith to Krayt.

In the battle of Taivas Darth Rauder was killed by Imperial forces who defected to Roan Fel after seeing Sith atrocities.

Darth Stryfe was killed by Wolf Sazen.

And, of course, Darth Krayt was killed by Cade - I'll go into more detail further down the post.

Imperial Knight Updates

Elliah Fel
Species: Human (Hapan)
Sex: Female
Position: Empress






Another flashback character. This Hapan woman was the wife of Roan Fel and the mother of his daughter. When Eskhar Niin turned to the dark side and hoined the Sith he murdered her before faking his death and moving to Korriban as Darth Havoc. Her death damaged relations between the Empire and the Hapans.

More shockingly Emperor Roan Fel was killed. He planned to use a virus engineered by Sith to retake Coruscant, it was in fact a Sith trap, as they had engineered it so that they would be immune. But the other Knights thought this to be inethical and so Antares Draco killed him, saving the Alliance.

Jedi Updates

Nat Skywalker and Tr'aa Saa both sacrificed their lives on Taivas, as they were killed they released a powerful force surge that cleared a path for the fleeing Jedi from the hidden tample.

Wolf Sazen was killed in a duel with Darth Stryfe, taking out his opponent in the process.

Neti Seedlings








After the death of Tr'aa Saa these seedling were seen to be growing on Taivas, proving that even in war life finds a way. What will become of these force sensitive beings is yet to be seen...

Map

Obviously with the entire galaxy at war there's a lot going on so this map is more of a mish-mash than usual, still I hope it's of interest, showing the movements of the key players.












Issue Review

Thi isn't a review really it's more of a summary - oh well! I'm aware this post is getting on the long side so I'm gonna blitz through this. Darth Krayt is back from the dead, and he retakes Coruscant from Wyyrlok then sets to make war against his enemies. Cade continues his vendetta against the Sith, battling them one by one to get to Krayt, picking up his mother (revealed as a spy to the Sith) in the process and forgiving her. The Sith learn the location of the hidden temple and the Empire launches an attack, but the Alliance counterattack. However Krayt unleashes his Sith forces on them and they lose the battle. Desperate and battered the Allies launch an all-out assault on Coruscant and Cade finally battles Krayt once and for all and finally kills and puts his body into a sun, this throws the Sith into disarray and gives final victory to the Jedi.

My Two Credits

Despite a slow start - we don't we much 'war' till the half-way point this issue is a very fitting end to the Legacy story, open to be continued but as a narrative it is complete and very satisfying, well worth reading!

Blogga's Wall - Catchup!

OK so I'm VERY behind on this one!! I've obviously missed a bit due to my holiday, but it also looks like I didn't do a post for February either so this is a big catch up here - right, better get on with it!!

1) Mass Effect: Evolution











I won't say much as I'll be reviewing this series before long. Basically this delves into the origins of the Illusive Man from Mass Effect 2, who aids and funds Shepard's mission to stop the Reapers, though his ultimate goals remain a mystery. Set during and after the time when humans first stumbled into Citadel space this story explores the young mercenary, and the discover that drives him to become leader of Cerberus.

2. Darth Vader and the Lost Command












Another new comic series from Dark Horse, I'll also be reviewing this soon, when the final issue comes out in a month or so so I won't say too much. Darth Vader leads an army to recover a lost Imperial Unit sent to the Ghost Nebula, tracking his target through traps, mysterious worlds and betrayals.

3. Outcasts







This was a great BBC series, set on a new colony world of Carpathia. Set as a new colony ship arrives at the new colony it explores the power struggles of people who were important on Earth against the established rulers of Carpathia. As this goes on it opens up a wider angle of what's going on, with rogue clones waging a secret war against the colony and further on an alien force intent on wiping them out - unfortunately this series isn't going to be resumed so we won't find out what happened next, but it was a great ride.

4. Assassin's Creed: The Fall.











Again will be reviewing this soon so I won't say much at all, in fact I think it's my next post so I'll say nothing!

5. Legacy: War #3










Another series I'll be reviewing in a month or so, it's sad to say that the FINAL issue of Legacy is out soon - I don't know what I'll do with myself after.

6. Caves of Steel













A great Asimov novel, basically a detective story in a future Earth with robots, spacemen and the future of humankind in the balance! Humanity has taken to the stars, but those that remain have built great enclosed mega-cities and feel little need to leave so when a group of 'spacers' return and establish a colony on Earth the tension is high, and when a spacer is murdered the tension is higher - Baley, a detective must be partnered with a robot (3 laws and all that) to uncover the killer before war breaks out and finds a bigger plan at work too. Great read.
