Not entirely surprising since J K Rowling took the idea of the philosophers' stone from alchemical legend, as have many other fiction writers down the years. Wikipedia has its history and lists some of them.
I know, it was supposed to be a joke, but if this blog is for the serious sci fi peeps, then there is also a Daffy Duck and the Philosopher's Stone. Fun, fun, fun.
